Located on the grounds of the Ohio Expo Center and State Fairgrounds, Columbus Crew Stadium is a soccer stadium in Columbus, Ohio, USA. After so much yelping about soccer's potential for growth in the U.S., Lamar Hunt, owner of MLS's Columbus Crew and American pro soccer's most resolute investor built a model home for the sport. Built on a 15 acre, the new stadium took nine months and one day to complete at a cost of $28.5 million to Hunt. The stadium was modeled after the parks of medium-sized first-division clubs in Europe. The playing field is 75 yards wide x 115 yards long and can also be used for concerts, rugby, football, lacrosse, field hockey, and many other events.

The first soccer specified stadium made just for MLS, the Columbus Crew Stadium opened in May 15 1999. It seats 22,485, though when it opened, an extra 2,256 fans found a way to wedge themselves in for a game against the New England Revolution. For an MLS regular season game on October 4, 2008 against the Los Angeles Galaxy, the reported attendance was 22,685.

The stadium has some of the finest amenities that combine European atmosphere and the sharp-cut industrial look designed in the very image of the Columbus Crew team. As a matter of economics few expensive gimmicks have been included. There is the Huntington Club-an exclusive hospitality area; climate controlled Suites; a Stadium Club; the stylish Crew Gear fan shop among other amenities. For soccer ball-pre-event festivities or concerts, there is a 57,000-square-foot Crew Kicker Plaza-embedded with an 84-foot-diameter concrete. The four concession patios, one in each corner of the facility overlook the field, permitting customers to stay on top of the action as they feed themselves. All the stands are made of aluminum, which resounds loudly when 20,000 fans stamp their feet in mass approval. Other features and facilities include air conditioning in the locker rooms, and the gentle eight-inch crown built into the field for drainage. The floodlights are attached to four angled towers that lean over the field from each corner. The stadium also has a video board that measures 384 ft (36 m) as well as a 32 ft (10 m) scrolling matrix board.

In the past, the Columbus Crew stadium has hosted numerous sports events including United States Men's - that also includes the 2001 World Cup Qualifier between the U.S. and Mexico- and Women's National Team matches, the 2001 MLS Cup championship, the 2000 and 2005 MLS All-Star Games. Besides hosting MLS games, the field has also hosted NCAA 2001 and 2003 Men's College Cup national football championship, NFL exhibitions, high school soccer and football. Besides sports, the stadium is also a popular venue for concerts annually, including Rock on the Range, an annual festival of performances by rock bands. The Columbus Crew Stadium certainly is a stepping stone in the progress of soccer in the U.S. and has now become a landmark structure in American sports history.
