A Brief History of Electric Shaver Brands
The history of electric shaver brands is a long one and a brief summary in no way covers everything, but it can touch on some highlights. There were companies that lasted through the years by bringing great products to people...and there were others that got in over their heads and didn't last.
Action Shaver: This was a brand of electric shaver that was around in the 40's. Not much is known about it but what information we do know is that it was purchased through mail order only. We also know it was produced in Elgin, IL and historians have stated it was made from mainly Swiss parts.
Clip Shave: A product from Port Chester, NY, this electric shaver was around in the 30's and retailed for around $10. It came with a five foot cord, which was rare for the time, as well as a genuine leather carrying case.
Packard: Not to be confused with the computer manufacturer, this one was produced by a company known as Lektro Products and based in Milton, CT. The Packard was their first model on the market and was met with great success. Despite it's popularity as well as its predecessors, Lektro Products disappeared in the 50's after a good run.
Roto-Shaver: This brand was named after the firm that produced it and based in New York City, NY. Many remember it as the Lektro brand's fierce competition at the time. It also disappeared in the 50's along with them.
Vornado: Commonly confused with Vornado Air Circulation Systems, Inc., this brand was in no way connected to them. The company that owned this one was named The Two Guys Company and they stuck the Vornado brand name on a lot of different products, including kitchen appliances. No one knows if they ever had permission to use the name or not, but no record of lawsuits have been found.
This small list does not even begin to touch on all the history in this market. To compile a full list of every brand and its full history would take years and could probably fill a small library. While some companies had a very brief history others made it all the way through until now and keep adding pages to theirs every day.
