Other Than Professional Training, What Do Top Hairdressers Need To Succeed?

But we should all realize ... particularly if we're over 20 years old, that life doesn't always fall in place with our plans like the perfect story. Life shows itself in some complicated ways, even if we do get out of the way and, it's quite a bit more confusing than we ever considered it could be. But, fortunately we aren't the only ones that ever had this problem.

So is there a way to actually minimize the effects of circumstances turning our dreams and goals into a huge mess?

Yes, yes, and yes ... we can put some other strategies into play and I'll give you a list of them for you to consider and then integrate into your business. And let me just say quickly that even if you are employed at a salon at the moment and you ever had the desire to rent your own chair or dream about owning your own business then you'll have to go the extra mile. ESPECIALLY … if you really want to achieve better than average results.

And so with that being said lets explore the elements of this series of three things that will generate the most adventageous opportunities for you.

1. A place to work that offers opportunity for you to grow:

This is one of those little untold situations that you have to think about to insure that you have the opportunity to build yourself and your business. I don't believe you can hope to achieve solid growth if you're under a totalitarian type employer, but, I do certainly agree that for any business to exhibit growth there must be a plan and orderly fashion of doing business. Maybe I should give you an example:

I can recall a story about a young man that had a job at a furniture store that learned how the customers began to drop their guard as he would greet them and escort them around the store to show the layout of the store and meet the manager. It helped the prospects to feel at ease and begin to develop a feel for the store and most importantly for the young salesman. This background gave the young man the chance to develop a relationship with the prospect. Could he tell you all about the furniture? Oh yea, just like you can give a good cut ... but he also committed himself more and started to build a sincere trust with the prospect first. He didn't hurry them to make decisions which helped him to become a top salesman at that store.

Notice that initally he gave his prospect the chance to get a feel for this new environment, maybe meet a couple of people and exchange pleasantries. Does it take an extra few minutes? Of course it will, but we're trying to develop long term customers aren't we? And don't we want to make the most of every opportunity to have your clients experience all your services?

And think about this as well ... is sales something that you need to be thinking about? If it's not it should be, and there is a way to keep it completely natural without exerting pressure on your customers to buy your products or services. As your relationship develops, take them around to some of the other salon professionals (nail techs, etc.) and even the manager or owner, and gently impart to them your product knowledge so that when your customer leaves with your products they can achieve good results at home.
